The Jungle

Natalia Flores Professor Benuto English 255 9 April 2014 The Jungle; The Most Dangerous Job 1. What is the Goal of Both excerpt? Both goals of the excerpt is to meet a quota goal, that seems to build and build. The fast pace or unsantitzed food is the point that both animals and workers are abused. Both use manipulation to keep their workers quiet. The industry doesn’t care about anything more than making money on the expense on public’s health. 2. What kind of details do both authors include in their excerpts to make their point? The details that were used on the workers of meat packers such as injuries sustained. They hire low educated and illegal immigrants to keep their plants secrets unwrap. The sanitation in the Jungle story verse the stories in The Most Dangerous jobs are to keep their plants moving regardless of the public health, from workers to food that is being processed. The both use everything from rotten products to unhealthy solutions from dispensation of meat to worker. 3. What were the effect of the Jungle publication and have possible effect of The Jungle? The fast pace is the only thing that matters from rats that been poisoned mixed with meat to process lunch meat. The old rotten meat processed into smoked with couple ingredients will increase profit margin. Again no regards to the public’s safety to what they consumed to the workers in the meat plant whom hide injuries or grossly neglected and abused. The side effects of the Jungle just traded from abuse what the public eats by feeding us faulty product, just switch to abuse the workers in “The Most Dangerous Job’ that you can do the same to the employees.

Walmart: The High Price of Low Prices

Natalia Flores Professor Benuto English 255 8 April 2014 Wal-Mart: The High Price of the Low Price 1) Is it ok for Wal-Mart to conduct business that drives down other business to close? They way Wal-Mart comes in closed self owned business owners such as H&H hardware store or Ery’s supermarket that has ran in a small community for 40+ years. With Wal-Mart arrival business owners are forced to shut down within months. Wal-Mart depreciate local building value, as many other business understand won’t be able to conduct business profit with Wal-Mart in area. The United States government and cities help Wal-Mart provide land and building permits verse the average American business owner, is far from fair to the normal business owner. Thus causing the public to fight back to city officials of Wal-Mart is not Welcome Protest. The government is allowing a large corporate market of Monopoly and favoritism as the Walton family contributes much earnings to political parties. 2) How the ethics are are conducted how the workers get treated with including wages and insurance benefits? Wal-Mart exploiting workers from wages not being properly paid, as no overtime is allowed but you must get work done within a unrealistic time frame. Women workers are not promote to managers and are being discriminated against. Refusing insurance for workers and if provided have unrealistic premiums or deductibles are met with wages are provided. Afro-American are allowed to be mistreated and other Caucasian employees are singing racial jingles, without any ramifications of employee disciplinary actions taken. Wal-Mart freezes wages of their employees for a year don’t allow a union begins in the United States; but allowed in Germany. Crime rate is huge and growing as they don’t provide security only surveillance cameras, as workers and shoppers are being robbed, rapped, kidnapped and killed. Wal-Mart have 30 spy vans to stop workers from forming and becoming union, scaring their workers from speaking up. Instead of utilizing money to control workers a decent thing to do is contribute to workers and safety of the public as well. 3) How does the Walton family proclaim how “American” and “Christian” base company are really are? If you ever notice the advertisement’s that Wal-Mart uses the slogan the American company and way, hardly ever. With the consistent purchases from oversea have forced lots of American company industry to close, as China bought products are ongoing. They have several sweat shops in Mexico for clothing, were workers are grossly mistreated. The Walton family is paid 18 million(s) within 3 and builds their selves to the fortune five hundred yearly as their workers are not provided with decent. Instead of donation their money to charitable causes the keep contribute their donations to politics. A preacher in Inglewood had implied real Christians don’t build empires on the backs of their fellow man.

Why Education Is Not an Economic Panacea

Natalia Flores Professor Benuto English 255 8 April 2014 Education is an Economic Panacea 1) Does slapping a class for few college units in Humanities going to change poverty overnight? At the beginning of the author’s writing he seemed to have no excitement of graduation and noticed a large number would begin. During the course the classes would get smaller and smaller. John seemed like didn’t really think too much of program but was being fully funded books in all for all people under 120% poverty level. John can to the conclusion more of a realization that low-income people are burden today about issues of not having enough. Most students were coming from most students female (Afro-American to Latinas) with one to two jobs and mothers. Found out would be more difficult to overcome poverty and the student’s situation than just one class consisting of several week courses. 2) Was President Bush blaming not enough education for rise on poverty? President Bush did make a statement that education was falling behind since in the new postindustrial era. Those before people with a high school were able to maintain a middle class earning. Thus drawing attention away from the lost economy and jobs lost or even left overseas. It helped giving President Bush an advantage of pushing the lost to other areas such as education. Just addition to one program does give someone hope and direction to change but there are so many other issues that needed to be addressed as a president. 3) Did the teacher feel different towards the end of the article about teaching? And did graduation become a more a special advent? After the end results the teacher John realized that it helped besides just a couple of college units. As many of his students were female and many in domestic violence situations gave these women better insight of social issues as a whole and not hidden home. It gave John a better insight as well as his parents were below poverty level too. As he seen many bloomed and others changed life for the better. Just proves that was quoted by Cesar Chavez ““Once social change begins, it cannot be reversed. You cannot un-educate the person who has learned to read. You cannot humiliate the person who feels pride. You cannot oppress the people who are not afraid anymore.” John became more familiar in his students lives and struggles as graduation of few units became more valuable to give his students a greater incentives to began the struggles of combating poverty.

Nixon Says Goodbye

Natalia Flores Professor Benuto English 255 30 March 2014 Nixon Says Goodbye The visual expression and the raise of hand from President Nixon’s head with peace signs on both side would be a considered of happy retirement. The President seems to be happy event of the 37th President did a well job and was ready to enjoy some time off, well earned. A feeling of euphoria of relief as the President stands on the top of the steps to the presidential helicopter. There’s a magnitude of a great pressure off his shoulders with an overall visual of Presidents Nixon facial features. It gave a portrayal of great work and accomplishment of fine work Nixon had done during his term in office. That appears to have looking forward to time off and finally away from the Oval Office. The first brief article on post underneath his portrait with a brief editorial that he was that had given his resignation on August 4, 1974. The most convincing of lying is when a person is offended and gets angry. I seen footage of the Watergate with resignation. Nixon is blaming congress that they don't have his support anymore and has tried to roll over instead of admitting wrong doing. Was revised per “Our long national nightmare is over,” the new president, Gerald R. Ford, told the American people in his first address after Nixon resigned in August 1974. “Our Constitution works; our great Republic is a government of laws and not of men. Here the people rule.” Helped us reshape our thinking of being naive to civilians day to day thinking the government will take care of us.I consider it a realization of what continuously plaques my mind of book “Night” by Elie Wiesel, to be content and think everything is ok. In reality there’s a lot of motions in action and never has to do the behalf for the people. In conclusion, that any relationship the best is to always never complete to trust always evaluate; people tend to always do what is best from their selves.

Food Inc

Natalia Flores Mrs. Kim Environmental Science 225 31 March 2014 Food Inc. After further review of Food Inc. documentary, was really astonishing occurring for food standards guide lines. The beginning of food rush started off with corporations through the fast food industries such as McDonald’s. Their policies of cut cost of simplifying factors with practices of one worker trained to do the same job time and time again. Comprehending, that fast food markets are the largest purchasers of chicken, lettuce tomatoes, pork, and beef. The four different key run into five different industries categories: 1. Corn Industry making huge profits and turned into a monopoly. 2. Sanitation with ingredients and preservatives. 3. The use of illegal immigrants for workers in huge food corporations. 4. Monopoly in the meat packing industries. 5. The United States Government, allowing these policies. These are large issues that the United States public should be aware of, it’s has become a public safety issue. People need to start becoming aware to advocate our health for our self but our future generations as this has converted a profit not safety dilemma. This system has failed and started with not only the fast food franchise, but the corn engineering. It seems that Monsanto has engineered corn to come to be a Mafia corporation. They are one of the hugest key players of overall commerce; because they have engineered a corn into considered “their product” Monsanto thinks they own all the corn that is produced. Farmers aren’t allow to use any of their seeding as again the United States government has let another organization take of the United States public health into their hands. Thus allowing these consumers not only alter the process of food but allowing them to pump these items with antibiotics for livestock such as chicken. Then later the consumers such as ourselves eating the produced but only to have these harmful items such as antibiotics plus the what they have secretly added pesticides. We put on our plates everyday not just for our self’s but loves one leaving you feel so hopeless. The sanitation the government to let these food processors continuously changes not only harmful for our health to the public but causing a deprivation of the United States farmer. The farmers are usually owned due to contracts with another large business such as Tyson (one of the largest producer of chicken). Has the farmer expected to run and manufacture to their policies such as keeping the chickens enclosed in huge coops without any ventilation. Unrealistic as one farmer who boldly spoke up against them said that Tyson’s constantly asking to changes that cost over 500,000 USD but only earning up to 18,000 USD. The Famer also had exposed that chicken were dead and were unable to walk with the corn that made them mass produce their breast and legs. The chickens were only able to take few steps, then had to sit with the corn that were contracted to feed making them enlarged within weeks instead of months. Consumers thinking changing their health to chicken because of health benefits; to only find out them not only being processed un-sanitized fashion. These industries are grossly using illegal immigrants or low income public to abuse and to keep their business unwraps of exploitation. The poultry employed the Afro American population which was often low educated and low income workers. Now the poultry companies use illegal immigrants to keep them quiet so these corporations can continue to corrupt their products and feed the public. A secret camera revealed of chicken sick and half way dead being kicked and tossed and sent out for shipping for manufacturing. Making the consumer to purchase from local farmers with farmer markets and look for products that organic. The beef and pork manufacturers were worst the sanitization was ghastly, the methods not only exploited the animals but the workers as well. Cows were forced to be feed corn (which isn’t its natural diet) causing these animals to build up of E-Coli, thus affecting the consumers who eat and become infected. Thus causing the death of a toddler and making his mother’s loss into an advocate, still with rising death’s across the nation and recalls. The rapid productions of meat industry making the butcher’s job market the most dangerous as well into slavery. The Government is the most to blame as the pollution depends on the United States health department to insure the ingredients that are being used. But more of the measures of what actions should be continued to be held with these large monopoly corporations. As more and more of the public continue to suffer the consequences it is the Food Drug and Administration responsibility that it held accountable of fatal deaths happen annually. There should a greater concern about the well-being of not only it’s public but tax payers who rely on the government for its overall health in products that are being purchased in the United States industry. In conclusion again the people can’t rely on its government as many times had failed their public in the past. Considerations of growing your own crops in season such as tomatoes, with having a couple of fruit trees as well to get the people back on being self-reliant.

Liberia: War Underfoot

Natalia Flores Professor Benuto English 255 4 April 2014 Liberia: War Underfoot The portrait presented of Monrovia Liberia the Capital, the first thing noticeable was the all over was ridden with huge amounts of bullet casing. Every square inch of flooring is bullet casing and a person seems to be male wearing flip flop sandals. Large quantities of casing bullets not just in a bunch in one particular area; give you an indications of a high crime country. The scenes of the building with bullet holes, with a greater understanding of fear and chaos all around within Liberia. The fear the people of Liberia made me upset and great heartache to realize that all people don’t live free but with fear on a daily basis. Further reading in Central Intelligence agency and overlooking history, sadness me to see that the United States did help established Liberia. Somewhat used area and resources and no longer utilized just abandoned the country into harmful political powers. It was established for the convenience of the United States to deport salves back. Then United States allowed them to relay on the government while got used to military being station there for since until the Cold War was over. The United States just left an allied country in shambles with dictators that ruined the country in destruction. Recently found an article with an Emboli outbreak that has risen nine hours ago, but Liberia was spared for now. Liberia is located south west of Africa; south is north bordered at Sierra Leon, dense with tropical rain forest. Founded in 1822 by the United States to elevate the United States of freed slaves ‘and shipped them back to that part of Africa. The United States plays a huge part in coming in oppressing people in a political nice way then disregards the country when no longer needed. In conclusion, there is a possible way for the United States can figure a way to find resourceful way to help an allied country.

Bottlemania

Natalia Flores Mr. Benuto English 255 6 April 2014 Bottlemania Wondering how did we acquired into a bottle water nation, what made us transition from tap to bottle? Even if regardless of 89% of meting water regulations, what are so many reasons? It is the for suppose to loading gallons, cases of water, or filling up at the local water seems all to obscured when you can just lead over, just simply turn on the faucet? In reality we call can recall a moments of turning into a store and either filling carts or ice chest with neatly package of purity. With many health concerns or even times of mistrust in your nation, people have transition to bottle water from various reasons. There are many germophob’s that ideas of coming coming up from possible pipelines from the city to their mouths are hard to consume. Personally have witness my own mother and daughter unable to handle drinking even water from a cup just prefer bottle otherwise. It helps fuels the water company ‘with their sale and advertisement quoting “Untouched by man”. Assisting with images of other companies beautiful clean natural surrounding and elements such as Fugi or Dasani. Additional questions with even the plastic that is manufactured and processed of the chemicals that are use aren’t the healthiest either. It not evens a worldwide epidemic with just American consumers, what gives us the strong desire to purchase them continuously. Even the journalist even admitted doesn’t make any pay for it as the average American 27.6 annually, but seem to buy large various brands as an important meeting. Maybe it just a compelling nature to want to take that extra measure to take care of people such as family, friends and various people of importance in our life’s. Consumers purchase for many reasons such as parties, guest or even busy people on the go. There’s even more of a concern for individualism. In conclusion, we must be careful as a consumer as they add many beneficial properties sometimes nothing is beneficial in another luxury in spending extra money.

Oklahoma City Bombing [1995]

Natalia Flores Professor Benuto English 255 30 March 2014 Oklahoma City Bombing [1995] The time of so many lost lives in the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995, was a tragic time in United States history. So many faces of lost victims to a horrible crime gave so much grief. The sight of destructed of a ripped building with debris all over can only have a life time impact. The 170 deaths in from children and babies including adults, seems countless. The vigils the heartbroken families left behind seem so senseless. The video had constant reminder of the ages of victims and hearing of infant months it heart wrenching for the pain of families mourning their precious infant. Gives a greater not only upset but even a hatred of who would of cause the death of all these children. The difference of domestic terrorism is when an individual causes harm to his own country of origin. Terrorist from an outside group is an individual from another country to come into another country causing harm to other group of people. Either from homeland to out of country both are intent to cause harm by either self infliction or attacking areas containing large groups to inflict harm in large numbers. Either or is a political action against the most innocent which is the unaware the true victims of war. After further review of information that was unveiled with the public’s responses, there was high questionable to many things that had me question from the start. First, why would there be a daycare in a federal building? Would this as the government of concealing such as making environment of just nice office filled happily with office workers and children? Then to later find out there was an Armed, Fire and Tobacco office there too. Sometimes I feel like the government used the exploited of children to conceal their possible doing. Looking at further public testimony and heard there was two exploding (when the government gave one testimony of one). Hearing the possibilities of illegal storage of C-4 inside from one of the witness that building with knowing the presence of children. Even down to the predator Timothy McVeigh was an x military, wondering of what inside information he had as well. In conclusion, sound completely like conspiracy theory for other than what statements were made by the public and what was given to the public news, what be the otherwise turned of events.

Syria and Chemical Weapons

Natalia Flores Professor Benuto English 255 8 April 2014 Syria and Chemical Weapons Lifeless bodies lay all over with white sheet; the most horrifying of all is an elderly man lays the body of a toddler. Instantly sends a message of mass destruction of a sort. Two adult males are running out of a destructed building of some sort with flames and rubble all around. As the previous picture they both with again small children in their arms, racing from flames and running for their lives. Large crowds gathered along with the image of the Syrian flag flies high above. What is the cause of this chaos, you think again more died for at times senseless politics. Pathos is the first that comes to mind in this situation, regardless of what is going on the death of children is meaningless. Other people do matter but the sight of a little girl should be playing and not laid out on a gurney being respiratory resuscitated. Pathos plays a bigger factor over all when comes down to children over the other two such as Ethos or Logos. The Logos conclusion makes it overall view of chemical war fair was played on their own people of civil war, it’s sad again to see people oppressed to another iron hand of another government. The Ethos pictured played another huge key actually as showing the domination of what happens against demonstrators. With a greater understanding how easy for the government can turn against their own people just for their God giving rights, born to be free. The United Nation can only do so much as other countries that continuous crimes against humanity. Not just Syria but others as we learned like Liberia, countless death due to some dicator. United States policies do have a large effect around the world starting with ecomonics and enviromental powerhouses. Such as leaving Liberia alone under bad dicatorship after they were life long allies and was set sail to form a new country. The United States do hold a lot of responsibilities in politics around the world. In conclusion the United States do intervene when it seems like there is some ecomonics strong hold for us.

Hitler in Paris

Natalia Flores Mr. Benuto English 255 5 March 2014 Hitler in Paris The first image comes to mind with Hitler posing in front of the Eiffel Tower is symbolic to a tourist would. As if Hitler actually worked hard to achieve this trip of a life time. Next to the picture would be possible his friends and they were all on break together of a summer of vacation. Some what the feeling of they just had arrived ready to tour the city with delight a normal person of travel would do. The other two gentlemen accompany Hitler looks as if they have grins of delight. With the vision displayed you can sense the pleasure the three are very pleased to be in France. Then again many disguises are often with a smile. Hitler showed much admiration for the city, and quoted was his dream. His dream was to visit it to only try to tear it down. Hitler knew very many details and brought many artists with him to have a bigger vision of his world order. His personal tour was again like a tourist he knew exactly where he wanted to see and go. It was his first and only visit went on a art tour and having experience in opera houses. It seems quite odd because how a military man would would know about art. From previous knowledge of Hitler he’s dreams was to get accepted into art school but was rejected, but would be odd from people without prior knowledge. Hilter fascination was odd not to enjoy France by embracing it, but more show case of his own ideas of how the new world of Germany will be. Currently general ideas that came to mind with Hitler were his obsession of Napoleon was odd. It was peculiar to the point the two were even under 5’9 of height. Hitler’s seemed fixated on Napoleon to even have his body moved next to Hitler’s own father. It was lots of unusual similarities such as both foreigners’ ruling other countries, and both invaded Russian even down to the exact date (not year of course). Hiter and Napoleon together had photogenic memory, seem like both rulers had same qualities and dreams. Overall, Hitler I felt he was trying to possibly imitate Napoleon to the point of trying to rule the world as well. Hitler had no real identity just have seem to have followed Napoleon as an idol. The sight that Time magazine made him Man of the Year 1938, due to taking over country such as Poland, made me sick. Realizing the people in that time really didn’t understand the devastations that were sure to come. Almost for publicizing a bully because he had his revile countries in fear that had lost to 20 years earlier. That the article continues praise of war in the article and what he offered allies was permitted for his behavior. Hitler had Europe by the strings of his hands made intimation accepted in that era. In conclusion, had a intellect that back in the era that terrorizing other countries were excepted everyone else exempt yourself from the problem, is only contributing to the problem even more. Hitler’s only sought after to become his role model Napoleon then his own self.

Che Guevara

Natalia Flores Professor Benuto English 255 30 March 2014 Che Guevara At first appearance of a body of a young man with soldiers standing over this individual first came to mind was what a sad sight. The feeling of another massacre of a youthful person who has the rest of his life looking forward has come to an end. With his lifeless body lying on top of a table as the older soldiers just stare off positions of sense of caught their prey. In the portrait there’s military general leaning over of the decease man pointing of possible fatal injury giving you a greater feeling of what caused this? Regardless it seem nonsensical lost of human life, philosophy of possible ways this person could of prospered throughout his young life. The article implied that Che had a look of forgiving such as Jesus Christ himself. That statement with religious sense felt little overboard as nobody could personally add up to the messiah himself. Che was being portrayed as a saint, and somewhat a martyr. With the bravery they displayed in his life time with jumping into the water as spectators were frighten. The ambitious boy is determined minded and willing to go under any circumstances to achieve. In the movie Motorcycle Diaries gives you a great sense that he achieved so much in short period of time. In another scene of Motorcycle Diaries, the people of Peru were awarding Che with acknowledgement of not capable of progress without him. It gave the viewer almost a likable illustration of him, like the boy next door that was accomplishing so much. With more investigation and reading of other materials such as article you understand this individual wasn’t the likable boy next door. Che was a dictator and caused lots of bloodshed with practice of hatred. Thus, being the truth then why does Hollywood and actors publicized him as kind of cool. When all he delivered a message of detestation of so many others, by carrying on T-shirts. Making you realized that our youth is a lost nation of just follow Hollywood cause it’s the sign of the time. Che caused the set back of Latin countries by discrimination against equality for human rights. In conclusion, brings me back to be we a nation of approval because it’s patented and added glitter to Hollywood, which we are a thoughtless nation? Everything seen is not to be the truth with further investigation.

Indian Mascot

Natalia Flores Mr. Benuto English 255 27 March 2014 Indian Mascots People often go to sporting events and don’t think much about the characters of the imagines displayed on the team they represent. In document Los Angeles Times of Indian Mascots give a better of insight of racial humiliation. In 1950 all Jack Shakely as a child be more excited to have purchasing his own baseball cap, which is often a huge accomplishment for a child. More often more excited to have bought a baseball cap representing his Cleveland Indians; since he was multi of race making Jack to be more loyalty toward his nationality. When he arrived home shortly noticed a disappointed look his mother had gave him, left Jack as a child confused and embarrassed. The image as Jack examined closer realized of what angered his mother with understanding of racism. American Indians a proud race subjected to of a cartoon character are disrespectful for her as for fathers. The image of her proud heritage with buck teeth and red skin representation was more than enough said, with his mothers blaring eyes. It caused a reality of the world he was actually in and not of baseball with boyhood fantasies. Sad to say that children realize and are torn at the same time of type of real society we are actually a part of. On only until fifty years later did this become controversy issues, still a plagued on our society as you can still see the NFL team Redskins. With more and more consciousness it has weeded out with other teams such as the University of Illinois with the mascot Fighting Illini. The next time when you’re rooting in the stand with more awareness of what is actually your favorite team really representing and how is it. The reflection of humanity of how we really treat each other is with consideration of each other’s roots. Even though Sports Illustration declared that a whopping 84% of the American population didn’t felt it reflect any feelings. Personally, they way to whip out racism is eliminating stereotyping. In conclusion, Jack must have had a great comprehension as he later years became an advocate for his American people by becoming a President in California Community Foundation and Former Chairman of the Los Angeles City and County Native American Commission. Now what is greater proud that came out of that sad childhood heartbreak, and his still proud race.

Kent State Protest

Kent State The image of Kent State shooting with that appears to be a lifeless body lying faced down. Next to the body is a woman screaming in horror of help and panic in her face. Another lady is standing next to her in disbelief with a standing head turned without knowledge of her reactions. Only one individual appears to be running is one with everybody looking in different directions. Gave you a feeling of what’s the reason why don’t help her, and then comes a greater question of what is the chaos. Reviewing the video the realization that the government had involvement doesn’t really surprise the situation. As understanding the difficult times of Vietnam War time was scary time of changes where coming and government was overwhelmed from political to civil. The motives of most of the government is usually money, to why they would shot into protestors is a question to why? My speculation of motives would be the government would have investors and friends involved into such actions would like protestor to stay quiet. War makes money in all history has shown, the government has to build equipment which increases taxes. Investors are usually involved has lots of political ties such as close friends of congress and presidents. It’s a consistent reminder never get too comfortable because you never be expecting a drastic change with politics. The information I feel being presented is not necessary the right point of view as information is only towards one party such as for the protestors. There has to be a bigger motives reason for military action to get involved as well. I do believe the governments overstep their boundaries the cause of four people would never compensate for the loss of their families. Sixty-seven shots within 13 seconds just shows whoever was in command obviously had no prior experience. As protestors did have the right as being a part of the United States civil rights to protest. Still keeps in to conclusion that Nixon was a president unworthy of presidency as many others as well before him too. The other article that found online was “The May 4 Shooting At Kent State University; The search for Historical Accuracy By: Jerry M. Lewis and Thomas R. Hensley. “ Further review of the information, it started off as a friendly protest the day before that became hostile. Police officers being attacked and further acts of violence began to escalate with made the sending of National Guard troops with their presences. Troops did try to disperse the anger protestors with tear gas with refusal and went to retaliate with throwing canisters back only escalated to worst scenario. Out of the three that were killed only one was a demonstrator, the other three were just students stuck in cross fire. In conclusion, I do firmly Nixon had lots of covering up as even this article said that it began investigation and ultimately leading to the Watergate scandal which terminated his office.
